Justice Rocks!

FYI, Upcoming Show July 30th, 2010

Justice Rocks

Hey everybody! Just dropping in to tell you about an awesome benefit show going down on August 15th. The Pivot Legal Society is holding their annual Justice Rocks! event in Strathcona Park and we really think you should go! The fact that Corbin Murdoch and Maria in the Shower are playing guarantees that this show will be amazing, but add to that the fact the show is FREE and will feature a whole pile of bands, presentations, art exhibitions, vendors and food, how can you go wrong?

Chris-a-Riffic / Rose Melberg Benefit Show!

Safe Amp, Upcoming Show November 5th, 2009

Chris-A-Riffic & Rose Melberg

We’re a big fan of benefit shows here at The Aural Kinetic. You get to see great bands and good causes get some funding. What’s not to like? So when we heard that local wonderkids Chris-a-Riffic and Rose Melberg were planning a benefit for a injured friend and his cat (Medical bills! Boo!) we were all over THAT PLAN. The show is being put on by the Safe Amplification Site Society and is being recorded by Geographing Records for future release.

For more information on the show, please check out the Facebook page.

Movie Fundraiser / Halloween-esque Show TONIGHT

Upcoming Show October 27th, 2009

Uncut Fundraiser

Steve Watts – aspring actor and frontman for local punk band Irreverents – contacted us last night to let us know that there will be a fundraiser tonight at The Cellar for an independent horror movie they’re trying to make. The film is called Uncut and sounds similar in theme to The Blair Witch Project, with the exception that it’ll be a full-length movie shot all in one take.

So there you have it! If you want to support local film and show your love for local punks Irreverents and hip-hop heads Black Market Propaganda you may want to head on over to The Cellar on Granville tonight. Oh, and we should also mention that there will be a Halloween costume contest, a 50-50 draw, a dance-off and some sort of world record attempt involving the alcohols. Bands hit the stage at 9:30pm and minimum requested donation is $10, $12 the door.

The Jolts / The Ramones / The Greatest Idea EVER

Upcoming Show October 25th, 2009

The Jolts

Well, here’s hopin’ you didn’t have anything scheduled for October 29th because now you’re going to have to cancel it. Even if it’s a major surgery or your own wedding. Why? Because local punk superheroes The Jolts are puttin’ on the leather jackets and hitting the stage for a 25-song Ramones set at The Rickshaw! Hot Jesus!

Special guests include Evilive and Brigadoom. Doors at 8pm?

Hard Feelings Documentary / Kidnap Kids! CD Release Party

Upcoming Show October 2nd, 2009

Hard Feelings / Kindap Kids!

Come hell or high water, we’re hitting up both of these shows tomorrow night. First off is the Hard Feelings documentary showing at 8:00pm (Blim – 197 E.17th Ave.) It’s going to be 45 minutes of ass-kick and word has it they’ll have albums available which is awesome because they’re not easy to find.

Secondly, and unfortunately also with doors at 8pm, is the Kidnap Kids! CD release party at Goonies (108 E. Hastings Street between Main and Columbia). We’ll be all over this one too because we love Celina, Alie, Fred and Enzio. Not to mention Fine Mist, The Magician, Half Chinese, and Candles! Here’s hoping they don’t go on until we get there!

Two Cabins, Nu Sensae and B-Lines TONIGHT!

Upcoming Show September 29th, 2009

Cobalt

The Cobalt’s getting the axe this week, but not before they host a final round of killer shows. We’re heading to the doomed venue tonight to see Two Cabins, Nu Sensae and B-Lines tear the roof off, and YOU SHOULD COME! This is our public service announcement for the morning.

Copperspine Showcase!

Upcoming Show September 25th, 2009

Copperspine

This just in from our friend Lyn from Portico:

Hey gang,

Portico is playing at a Copperspine showcase show this coming Friday. It’s at Little Mountain Studios on 26th just west of Main. $10 gets you mini-sets (3 songs or so) from a bunch of great Copperspine artists:

Roger Dean Young
Pellucid
Abramson Singers
Jesse Matheson
Dan Brodie
Cameron Dilworth
Shout White Dragon
Kent McAlister
Sarah MacDougall
and us, Portico

The set times will be determined by random name drawing from a hat at the start of the night so come at 9 and stay till 11 and you’ll get to see everyone. That’s a lot of music in 2 hours, you’re gonna be exhausted.

K, so 9pm Friday. See you there.

No Hippies!

Upcoming Show September 15th, 2009

We’ve got a couple of shows that we wanted to highlight toward the end of the month. The first is the Distort Vancouver (Volume 5) party at the Rickshaw Theater (254 East Hastings). There are several bands on the bill including local hardcore acts Unfun and Fear of Tomorrow. More acts are TBA. The flyer explicitly states “No hippies!”, so for those of you belonging to the patchouli / Jack Johnson set, you may want to either grow a pair or sit this one out. Saturday, September 26th – 3pm – $10.

On September 29th there’s an historical show going down at The Cobalt Hotel (917 Main Street) featuring B-Lines, Nu Sensae and Two Cabins. The venue – like so many others – is getting the axe at the end of the month and the September 29th show will see the final “Boosh Tuesday”. For those wanting to pay their respects to the doomed hardcore venue, $5 will get you inside. Doors are at 8pm, but come early because this one is gonna be full.
